Officer Bowden, who left behind her husband, also a Columbia police officer, two stepsons, her parents and a brother, also left law enforcement with lessons to be learned from her sacrifice.
She was the first officer to be killed by gunfire in this city of about 100,000. The community that was brought together during her month-long struggle to survive, grieved along with them. So when Molly Bowden, 26, passed away February 10th - one month after being shot three times during a traffic stop - her police family in Columbia, Missouri, was devastated. She was friendly and outgoing, and well-liked by her fellow officers. "Officer Molly," as she was called by the young people she inspired, never met a stranger.
